Bowling

Barmouth Bowling Club invites visitors to join on club days every Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays at 1.45pm with equipment and tuition available.

Down on the harbour, the Merioneth Yacht Club merionethyachtclub.co.uk welcomes guests arriving by land or by sea, with regular rowing, sailing and a range of social activities. Visit MYC online

Running

Barmouth is a fantastic destination for runners. Whether you prefer the flat routes of the promenade and the Mawddach Trail or the challenge of the surrounding hills, there’s something here for everyone.

Y Promenâd parkrun, Abermaw is a free, weekly community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. The 5k run takes place every Saturday morning along the promenade, starting opposite the lifeboat station. It’s positive, welcoming and inclusive. There’s no time limit, and no one finishes last. Parking is available nearby, and toilets are open at the railway station. Other parkruns close by include Dolgellau (named by BBC Countryfile as one of the most beautiful in the UK) and Pont y Bala. Santa Dash: This is a 2-mile fun run along the Prom and back. Tickets are available online and include a Santa suit, goodie bag and medal. To enter, visit Barmouth-Wales Events

 

Barmouth 10k: Held each June, this race is fast becoming a Barmouth institution, and one of the most scenic runs in the UK. The route starts and finishes on the harbour and crosses the iconic Barmouth Bridge. More info at Barmouth Striders

 

Hurly Burly: Swim one of the UK’s wildest and most breathtaking routes. Starting on Barmouth’s sandy beach, the course passes beneath the bridge and rides the fast incoming tide upstream to The George III, Penmaenpool. 12 Sept 2026. More info at Level Water

 

Sea2Sky: From Barmouth beach to the summit of Cadair Idris and back, with a choice of 25k or 53k courses. More info at Run Through Trails

 

Ras y Gader (Cadair Idris mountain race) is one of the toughest fell races in Wales and a classic “must-do” in the running calendar. Starting and finishing in Dolgellau, the route climbs nearly 3,000ft from sea level to the summit of Pen y Gader.

 

Both the Talyllyn and Fairbourne Railways host “Race the Train” events, check their websites for details.

 

At Coed y Brenin you will find waymarked trails designed for all abilities. They range from short novice routes to longer challenges. Run Coed y Brenin also organises events throughout the year, including a half and full marathon in June. See runcyb.com
