Eating and Drinking
No vacation is complete without some memorable food, but memories can be made in all manner of ways...
One of the joys of being on holiday is relaxing over a coffee or lunch at an outdoor table with a stunning view and frankly it doesn’t get much better than the view from the harbour. Why not take time out and enjoy a slower pace of life with a cappuccino, (or maybe a hot chocolate out of season), at one of the harbour-side cafés or restaurants? Or perhaps fish and chips on the beach as you watch the sun set is your thing? If so we have several excellent chippies including one voted the finest in North Wales!
There’s also a real ‘buzz’ on the High Street with a number of highly-rated coffee shops and cafés. Barmouth’s streets are a real shoppers’ paradise with their wealth of independent stores but you won’t go hungry or thirsty. Every few yards there’s a café or coffee shop to tempt you, many of them featuring local Welsh dishes on their menus or delicious homemade cakes; perfect after a bit of retail therapy. Why not do a ‘café crawl’ - like a pub crawl but with less beer and more cake!
If food is what matters then Barmouth and the surrounding area can offer restaurants with superlative TripAdvisor ratings. From family-friendly restaurants to fine dining, intimate bistros to buzzing bars, there is plenty of choice to suit all tastes and all budgets. If you’re lucky you might find locally caught seabass or mackerel on the menu, or maybe a juicy lobster or crab from the bay. And don’t forget Welsh lamb is the finest in the world. Keep your eye out for tender salt-marsh lamb in season. Barmouth can also offer a number of attractive pubs and bars, all of them with great atmosphere, friendly staff, and hearty food. And don’t forget North Wales is home to many local breweries producing a range of fine craft ales - look out for them on the drinks menu!
Whether it’s a burger by the beach, halloumi by the harbour or a T-bone in town, you won’t go hungry in Barmouth!
